2014 Test Shots

2014 is done and in the books! This is my sister Kaitlin's favorite blog post of the year and I do enjoy it too.  Test shots give people a glimpse into the chemistry and craziness that is wedding photography.  To know if the light running through our cameras is correct we often stand in the middle of the dance floor or field to get a proper meter reading. It may take two or three shots to get it just right so we get bored and start making faces.

Weddings are a major stress point for couples. We have learned through the years that our behavior and previous knowledge can help ease this. There are little things that happen at almost every wedding... (How do you put a boutonnière on correctly? How do you cut the cake? How do you tie a tie? Where is the best man? Should I pee now or later?) and aside from taking pictures, we normally have the answers to these questions. Being placed in these situations and working through these problems together helps us build a special bond with all our clients.

To get some shots, it requires a little bit of acrobatics and whenever that happens, you can be sure Kaitlin or I are up for the challenge. We are constantly climbing things and laying down in stuff!

Many times before we ask a couple to trudge through a field or leave the dance floor, we take a test shot to show them what an image of them could look like. We have yet to have a couple say no after seeing the test shots!

When taking some photos, I have Kaitlin go with the couple and I am left far away.  She knows exactly how to position them to get the greatest shot. While I am taking the pictures, she enjoys shooting one of me so I can find it later while editing.

This was the year we had a double tire blowout on the way to a wedding. Lucky for us, we leave early and have a very responsive family that set us up with a second car. We still showed up on time! Nevertheless, I hope it never happens again.

The final collection of shots are just random meter readings taken at various weddings. I am sure you can see we enjoy our jobs!
